HISTORY OF TEDDYS BITS
Established in 1994 out of a frustration at not being able to obtain good quality supplies, Teddy’s Bits first conducted business out of the sewing room in Marlene and John’s home. With high quality fabrics Marlene not only was able to improve her own work, but was able to assist fellow bear makers whose numbers were swelling. With encouragement and assistance from John it wasn’t long before Marlene was producing patterns and kits for sale and conducting workshops.
As interest and demand grew, Teddy’s Bits moved into the rear section of a small, local craft shop and then eventually into its own, suburban retail outlet.
In 1997 Teddy’s Bits moved to Ascot Vale and in 2001 to 393 Mt. Alexander Rd. in Ascot Vale.
As of March 2005 Teddy’s Bits closed their shop to concentrate on mail order and their on-line business and devoting extra time to the development of new kits & patterns.
In November 2005 Teddy’s Bits was sold to a family in NSW. A husband and wife and two daughters who have been in the teddy bear business for the past three years.
Nov 2019 has seen Teddy’s Bits taken over by Felicity, after the retirement of Valma.
